Death of Church Member – Ted Langille

tedlangilleLANGILLE, Theodore Alexander “Ted” – Suddenly, at the Welland Hospital, on Thursday, January 29, 2015 in his 69th year. Beloved husband of Donna Langille (nee, Mullen) for 46 years. Loving father of Lonnie Langille (Linda Johnston) and Jami VanSickle (Robert). Cherished grandfather of Jacob, Sydney, Sandra and Scott. Dear brother of Nancy MacLeod (Jim), Sharon Langille (Wayne), Sheila Langille (late Everett), Brad Langille (Wendy), Geoff Langille and Darren Langille (Tammy). Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Thelma and Arthur Langille and sister-in-law Sheila Mullen. Ted worked Atlas Steel for 35 years and, following his retirement, as a grounds keeper at the Legends of Niagara Golf Club for 10 years. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Respecting Ted’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Ted’s Life will take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated by the family. Cards are available at theH.L. Our Annual Congregational Meeting is being held next week (February 1st) in the Fellowship Hall, immediately after the morning service. Annual Reports are available at the entrance to the church. Please take one per family and remember to bring the report with you to the meeting.

Lunch will follow this meeting. To help with the lunch, please bring a half loaf of sandwiches or a plate of finger desserts (squares & cookies). Coffee, tea and juice will be provided.

A funeral service for our oldest member, George Balaz, was held yesterday. We pray that God will bring comfort to the Balaz family as they mourn.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins today. By finding ways to pray together during this week, we join with all people around the world who are praying, reflecting, studying and even eating and drinking together to celebrate and pray for Christian unity.

Death of Church Member – George Balaz

George-BalazBALAZ, George – at his residence, Plymouth Cordage Retirement Home, on Wednesday, January 7, 2014 in his 102nd year. Beloved husband of the late Pauline Balaz (nee, Galen) (2006). Loving father of Diana Surka (Rick) and Shirley Lampman (Ron). Cherished grandfather of Kristin Davies (Chris), Derek Surka (Charrissa), Keara Jakic, Mark Surka (Christa) and Craig Lampman (Tracy) and great-grandfather of Teagan, Tayah, Kalea, Laiken, Jackson, Liam, Abby, Brody and Everett. Dear brother-in-law of Susan Horni (Steve). Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Ontario and Slovakia. Mr. Balaz came to Canada in 1937 where he met and married Pauline in 1940. A tailor by trade, he owned and operated B & M Dry Cleaners in Welland and following the sale of the business he worked at Towers Department Store until his retirement. He was a proud and very active member of the Canadian Slovak Benefit Society and eventually became Canadian President. Mr. Balaz was presented the Ontario Bi-Centennial Medal in 1984. He was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Friends are invited to visit the family at the H.L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland, on Friday, January 16th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 17th at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church or the Leukemia Society would be greatly appreciated.
