Born September 11 1928, Died October 2nd 2022. Lillian Margaret was born in Fenwick, Ontario, to her parents the late William James Mitchell and Lillian Ashton. Predeceased by her brothers James and Arthur Mitchell. Margaret, as she preferred to be called, was married to Gerald Edward Funk on September 5, 1959 at the Fenwick United Church and their marriage lasted for 44 years. Lovingly remembered by her son James Wesley Funk married to Sara Funk (nee Beicke), their children and grandchildren and her daughter Linda Kathryn Funk married to Clement Laquerre their children, grandchildren, great-grandchild and grand-dog Snowflake. She will also be remembered by her nieces Ana Lorraine Stirling and Melanie Funk-Laskaris and her husband Peter Laskaris; great-nephews Kyle and Ryan Stirling; Tim and George Laskaris; great-niece Hope Laskaris and Godchildren Lori Ann Thoms and Carol Raynor. She is also survived by Eileen Bard (Fred), her many loved relatives in England, Scotland and Wales, which include Patricia Clayton (predeceased by Tony, Andrew and Ian Clayton) and her surviving daughter Heather, her husband Stuart their children, Alexander, William and Charlotte; R.A. Waring (Tony) and his deceased wife Megan (and Max the dog) their children, Karen and her husband Michael Bouissou, and their children Elias and Caden (and dog Lexi), Nerissa Douglas Vincent-Townend along with their children, Laila, Erin and Amber (and dog Luna), Jacqueline and Keith (and dog Gracie). Margaret was also a special friend to Margaret and Gerry Van Dyk; Margaret and Dan Heyes and their children Evan and Maria. Linda Deveney; Donna Nielsen; Noreen and Denis Mailloux (our cottage friends). Her much-loved friends Madelyn and Gordon Moulton, who are predeceased.
Margaret was a very active, and passionate member of the community by her involvement with the Rebekah Lodge, the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America Inc., St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and as a member of the Port Colborne Gyrettes. Margaret was educated at the Hamilton General Hospital as a R.N. 1950, the General Nursing Council for England and Wales Graduating in 1953 and the University of Toronto CPHN 1957. Margaret worked at the Old Welland Hospital; Victoria Hospital, London ON; Hamilton General Hospital 6 years in the delivery room as Head Case Nurse; CPHN – City of Hamilton; Welland Health Dept. which then became Niagara District Health Dept. Retired after 26 years. Many thanks to the following people Dr. A. Tang; Dr. L. Special thanks to the Doctors and Staff of the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, particularly the third floor nurses, Shannon, Raquel, Rebecca and Teri who made sure Mom was comfortable and pain-free, during her last days with us and the EMS attendants, who so lovingly, transported Mom to the hospital for the last time.
