Spence, Daryle Anita – The family of Daryle Anita Spence of Welland, Ontario is saddened to announce her passing on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the age of 82 years, at Woodlands of Sunset.
Daryle was a dedicated and loving wife to Robert “Bob”, her husband of 45 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Wayne Allcorn, Lawren Allcorn (Jennifer), Sherri-anne Spence and Shaun Spence (Teri); her grandchildren Arissa, Ayashe, Braidyn (Jillyan), Caleb, Malcolm, Tyler (Dakota), Joshua, Parker and Elison; her great-grandchildren Kaiden, Isaac, Logan and Wrenley. She will also be remembered fondly by her nieces, nephews, and other relatives across Canada. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Johanna Anderson; siblings Mervin Anderson, Vera Bruce and Arlene Hamilton; son Alex Allcorn; and daughter-in-law Marlene Spence.
Daryle was born in Fort William, Ontario on January 8, 1941, the youngest daughter of Alex and Johanna. Always ready for adventure, as a young woman she spent a year travelling across Europe. After returning to Canada, she earned her teaching degree, and later in life re-entered university earning her B.A. in English.
Daryle’s love of learning and care for others was evident throughout her career as a kindergarten teacher, library assistant, and her volunteer role at the Jordan Museum. Throughout their marriage, Daryle and Bob enjoyed exploring new places together, with visits to numerous countries across five continents. Daryle was very proud of her Finnish heritage, which she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She loved saunas and making memories with her family on the shores of Surprise Lake and Henvey Inlet.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Woodlands of Sunset, in particular the Pines Unit, for their compassionate care and support.
Cremation has already taken place. In keeping with her wishes, a private memorial will take place at a later time.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Daryle’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
